How to Pickle

Everyone knows about pickles, and often times, the first thing that comes to mind are cucumbers. So, to start pickle I decided on pickling cucumbers. I have always loved pickles especially cucumbers. Without knowing the tiniest bit about pickles, I typed “Easy Pickle Recipe” into Safari. I quickly found that pickles just depend on vinegar, sugar, salt, and water mixed together and boil. After, the solution is poured over the ingredients you want to pickle. The variations are ENDLESS the ratio of salt, to sugar, to water, to vinegar can be anything. Most importantly, the ingredients can be as random as you want them to be.

The only thing to remember is that you need to mix together sugar, salt, water, and vinegar. The ratio doesn’t matter as long as you like the flavor. But here is a recipe for cucumber pickles (or anything you want to pickle) with a ratio that you can use.

Ingredients:

1 cup of distilled white vinegar

1 cup of water

1/4-1/3 cup of sugar

1.5 tablespoons of salt

Green onion

Red pepper flakes

garlic

cilantro or parsley

Cucumbers or whatever you want

Instructions:

  1. chop the green onion, garlic, and cilantro or parsley

  2. pour white vinegar, water, sugar, and salt in a saucepan and heat so that it boils

  3. let the mixture cool

  4. put the other ingredients in mason jars

  5. pour the solution into the mason jars

  6. close the lids and put in the fridge

This recipe was able to fill three 8 oz. mason jars.

Review:

Tasted great using cucumbers. I personally like it when my cucumbers are crunchy. I liked eating them the next day. They are still crunchy for about a week. After that it gets more soggier but the flavor is still very good. This recipe makes very sour pickles which are my favorite. Overtime the flavor gets a little bit sweeter.
